John Adams Prexie Definitive

Under Review

Description: This classic definitive postage stamp from the United States belongs to the landmark 1938 Presidential Series, featuring a highly detailed monochrome rose-carmine engraving of John Adams. Adhering to the austere, neoclassical format of this pre-war collection, the layout removes traditional decorative frames to highlight a sharp right-facing profile portrait modeled after an 1818 bust sculpture by Daniel Cheesman French. The text "UNITED STATES POSTAGE" is balanced cleanly in three stacked lines within the upper right quadrant. Centered near the lower right edge, a small, subtle three-line inscription lists his name and tenure: "JOHN ADAMS 1797–1801". A large numeral "2" anchors each bottom corner, neatly flanking the words "CENTS" centered along the baseline. This heavily handled specimen shows strong, sweeping black ink arcs from a machine-applied wavy line cancellation.
