Description: This classic definitive postage stamp from the United States belongs to the celebrated 1938 Presidential Series, displaying a detailed monochrome blue-grey engraving of James Buchanan. The design embraces the signature minimalist aesthetic of the "Prexies" collection, removing ornate colonial borders to highlight a fine-line profile bust modeled after a classical historical statue. The text "UNITED STATES POSTAGE" is neatly arranged in three justified lines within the upper right quadrant. Just beneath the portrait, a subtle three-line inscription reads "JAMES BUCHANAN 1857–1861," commemorating his specific years in office. Centered cleanly along the bottom margin, the words "15 CENTS" are framed on both sides by a bold numeral "15". This used specimen features a heavy black precancel or town postmark overprint across the center, along with parallel horizontal cancellation lines.
