Description: The Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) is a mid-level military decoration presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguish themselves by heroism, outstanding achievement, or sustained meritorious service. The obverse features an American bald eagle with horizontally displayed wings, bearing a shield of thirteen vertical pieces on its breast while tightly clutching three crossed tactical arrows in its talons. The medal is suspended from a distinct myrtle green silk ribbon adorned with five thin vertical white stripes clustered down the center and thin white borders along the outer edges. This particular artifact is preserved as a complete set inside its official dark blue velvet-lined presentation case, which encapsulates the full-size medal, the matching service ribbon bar, and the miniature circular enamel lapel pin.
Circa: 1945-Present
Notes:
This decoration was initially created by the War Department to recognize acts of heroism, meritorious achievement, or outstanding service that do not quite meet the threshold required for the higher-ranking Bronze Star Medal.
