Material: Copper-Nickel Clad (Outer layers: 75% copper, 25% nickel; Core: pure copper)

Obverse: This United States half dollar stands as a major transitional milestone in modern American numismatic history. The obverse displays the powerful, left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy, originally created by Chief Engraver Gilmore Roberts and adapted rapidly following Kennedy's assassination in late 1963. Arching gracefully across the upper rim is the bold text "LIBERTY", while the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is split across the lower fields flanking the neck. This 1971 issue represents a critical industrial shift; it marks the very first year that circulating half dollars were struck in a completely base-metal copper-nickel clad composition, bringing a definitive end to the use of silver bullion for standard, daily pocket currency.
Reverse: Heraldic eagle based on the Presidential Seal, holding olive branch and arrows; UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR around.
Circa: Post-Silver Era / Modern Coinage
