US Army Great Seal Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: Silver washed, plated, Sterling unmarked, or other...

Size: 50 mm × 60 mm.

Description: This metallic artifact is a standard-issue uniform device worn centered on the front of the service cap by commissioned officers. The intricate casting replicates the Great Seal of the United States, displaying an eagle with outspread wings protecting a central shield that features thirteen vertical stripes. In its beak, the raptor holds a flowing ribbon bearing the historic national motto, while its talons firmly grasp a leafy olive branch and a tight cluster of thirteen arrows. A circular cloud cluster enclosing thirteen raised stars sits directly above the head to symbolize the founding colonies of the nation. The physical dimensions match the standard size requirements for headgear display, and the reverse side utilizes a secure threaded post mechanism to prevent the heavy badge from rotating when affixed to stiff uniform fabric.

Circa: 1902-Present

Notes:

This cap insignia follows the standard U.S. Army Great Seal pattern used through the mid-twentieth century. The screw back fitting is characteristic of earlier manufacture and service use before later clutch-back versions became common.
