Description: This shield-shaped cloth insignia is the official Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) worn by personnel assigned to United States Army Vietnam (USARV). The patch features a vertically divided tri-color field consisting of a golden-yellow stripe on the left, a deep reflex-blue stripe down the center, and a vibrant red stripe along the right flank. Superimposed directly over the center stripe is a boldly embroidered white crusader sword with a golden-yellow hilt, pointing directly upward to signify military readiness and defense. The entire design is enclosed within a crisp, white merrowed border edge, engineered for sewing directly onto the shoulders of dress green and utility uniforms.
Circa: 1966–1973
Notes:
The distinctive insignia was officially approved by the US Army Institute of Heraldry on February 10, 1966, serving as the principal theater command patch until the headquarters was deactivated on March 28, 1973.
