Description: an unsevered right-hand corner plate block consisting of three mint, non-hinged 3½p Christmas stamps arranged in a "traffic light" configuration. Designed by the celebrated British artist David Gentleman, the medieval-style triptych illustration colorfully breathes life into the classic 19th-century carol Good King Wenceslas. The central gothic arch frames the kind king at his writing lectern, flanked on the left by the poor peasant gathering winter fuel and on the right by his loyal page bearing a steaming flagon. A clean, gold-foil silhouette profile of Queen Elizabeth II anchors the upper right corner of each stamp above the fractional 3½p rate indicator, while the wide right selvage margin displays a perfect vertical stack of ten multi-colored printing control dots used by the press technicians to ensure flawless registration.
Circa: 1973
Condition: Horizontal block of three with printer’s color registration dots. One stamp has scrunched corner.
