Description: This distinctive Royal Mail stamp showcases the famous "Darnley Portrait" of Queen Elizabeth I, captured by an unidentified master painter around the late sixteenth century. The Queen is depicted in an incredibly ornate, gold-embroidered doublet gown accented by structural lace ruffs, rows of formal pearls, and an intricate fan of ostrich feathers clutched in her hand. The top-left corner bears the pre-decimal face value "4d" in an elegant serif typeface, balanced in the opposite corner by a gold silhouette profile of Queen Elizabeth II, while the lower white margin credits the historical origins with the text "ARTIST UNKNOWN c.1575 / HARRISON".
