Millennium Queen Freddie Mercury

Under Review

Description: This authentic British postage stamp was issued by the Royal Mail as part of their highly celebrated Millennium Series, specifically within the "Entertainers' Tale" set. The striking split-scene design features two action photographs of Freddie Mercury, the iconic lead vocalist of the rock band Queen, performing live during an arena concert. The large upper portrait shows the singer leaning back dramatically while holding a microphone, showcasing his famous red-and-white striped wristbands, while the lower wide-angle shot captures him striking a powerful pose center-stage in front of Roger Taylor’s drum kit. Positioned in the upper-left corner is the traditional gold foil silhouette profile of Queen Elizabeth II, sitting directly above the large numeric denomination 19 printed in a muted gold tone across the lower right section. Vertical text aligned on the right edge displays the series name Millennium 1999/28 alongside the artistic credit Mercury's Stage / P Blake.

Circa: 1999

Condition: MNH

Notes:

This release caused a massive public stir because Queen drummer Roger Taylor can be clearly seen behind the kit in the lower frame, technically violating a centuries-old Royal Mail rule dictating that no living person outside the Royal Family may appear on British postage stamps.
