UK King George VI 1s Definitive

Under Review

Description: This stamp features the classic profile portrait of King George VI facing left, designed by Edmund Dulac and Eric Gill. The head is centered within a hexagonal frame, flanked by diagonal bands reading POSTAGE on the left and REVENUE on the right. The corners are intricately decorated with the four national floral emblems: the Tudor rose (top left), the thistle (top right), the daffodil (bottom left), and the shamrock (bottom right). The denomination ONE SHILLING is prominently displayed at the bottom center. The entire design is printed in a distinctive bistre-brown color. This specific used example shows heavy cancellation marks typical of the period.

Circa: 1939

Condition: Used

Notes:

Because it was issued immediately prior to the war, this stamp was widely used for international airmail and parcel rates during the conflict, making it a piece of postal history that often carried news to and from the front lines.
