Description: This vintage British definitive stamp features the dignified, strict left-facing profile portrait of King George V designed by Sir Bertram Mackennal. Rendered in a crisp green monochrome ink palette, the bust is enclosed in an oval frame surmounted by the Imperial Crown. The upper corners display the "½" fraction value, while decorative banners sweep around the portrait inscribed with "POSTAGE" and "REVENUE". Symmetrical stylized dolphins accentuate the lower corners just above the wide bottom banner reading "HALFPENNY". A prominent, dark circular postal cancellation mark runs across the lower portion of the King's face and beard.
Circa: 1912-1934
Condition: Used on Fragment
Notes:
Following intense public dissatisfaction with the short-lived 1911 three-quarter Downey Head design, the Post Office rushed to introduce this more conventional, orthodox side-profile based on Mackennal's coinage design. This design proved highly successful and remained the core image of British stamps for over two decades, outlasting multiple watermark transitions.
