Description: This horizontally oriented stamp features a beautifully detailed, realistic wildlife illustration of a European robin perched delicately on a polished brass door knob. Suspended directly behind the songbird is an ornate, frosted Christmas door wreath decorated with a grouping of round holly berries, multi-pointed holly leaves, and an intricately tied fabric bow. A solid, deep ochre-yellow architectural door panel blocks out the background. Positioned cleanly in the upper left corner is the large numeric face value denomination "60", balanced perfectly by a bright silver foil silhouette profile of Queen Elizabeth II in the upper right.
Circa: 1995
Condition: MNH
Notes:
Part of the 1995 Christmas Robins presentation pack. Robins are the ultimate symbol of a British Christmas, but the reason is purely historical. In Victorian Britain, Royal Mail postmen wore bright red uniform coats and were affectionately nicknamed "Robins". Illustrators began drawing the literal bird delivering letters on holiday cards as a visual pun on the postmen, creating a festive tradition that stuck forever.
