Europe in Space Commemorative Pairs

Under Review

Description: This artifact consists of two pairs of commemorative British postage stamps issued by the Royal Mail for the 1991 Europa CEPT omnibus series under the theme "Europe in Space". Designed as se-tenant pairs, the artistic composition spans across the central perforations of each set. The left pair, valued at 22 pence (22p) per stamp, features a massive telescope tube or funnel that reveals a split view: vibrant planetary bodies on a sunny canvas on the left, transitioning into a dense, starlit dark sky on the right, underlaid by a stylized face peering upward. The right pair, valued at 37 pence (37p) per stamp, showcases a dreamlike profile of a face crowned with a wide, ringed hat mimicking a planet or flying saucer, split down the center into warm red and cool blue color fields. Each individual stamp features the signature silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II in an upper corner and a subtle, geometric Europa CEPT symbol at the base.
