Royal Mail Classic Diecast Toy Commemorative Block

Under Review

Description: This philatelic block features a repeated horizontal layout displaying a classic scale-model sedan rendered in cream and deep green tones. The diecast model car sits at an angle against a clean, plain gray background backdrop that emphasizes its metallic contours. The upper left corner of each vignette hosts a dark gray silhouette profile of Queen Elizabeth II positioned over a numeric face value denoting forty-seven pence. Captions printed along the bottom edge cleanly specify both the toy brand and the approximate mid-century design era of the vehicle.

Circa: 2003

Condition: MNH block of 4 with margins and traffic lights.

Notes:

This entry is part of the highly popular "Transports of Delight" five-stamp commemorative set, which honored iconic British toys from the 20th century. The specific model pictured replicates the famous 1:43 scale Ford Zephyr Saloon (Reference No. 162) produced by Meccano at their legendary Binns Road factory in Liverpool. The graphic layout for the series was masterminded by the design firm Trickett & Webb, with the physical model sourced from a private collection and meticulously captured by photographer Martin Langfield.

The block displayed shows a right-hand margin selvage piece containing a vertical column of multicolored traffic-light dots used by the printers to monitor color registration on the press. These stamps were printed via high-resolution photogravure by De La Rue Security Print, using paper featuring a distinct "PVA" adhesive coating. For specialized philatelists, blocks with intact margin color dots are preferred over standalone stamps because they verify the alignment accuracy of the ink layers across the entire sheet layout.
