Description: This vibrant 43p stamp features Danger Mouse, the one-eyed white mouse superspy from the beloved British animated series that first aired in 1981. Created by Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall, the show followed Danger Mouse and his timid sidekick Penfold as they thwarted villains like Baron Greenback in a parody of spy thrillers. The stamp depicts Danger Mouse narrowly escaping a menacing blue shark in a dynamic comic-style scene, framed in vivid purples and blues. The series’ tongue-in-cheek humour and clever writing made it one of Britain’s most iconic animated exports.

Circa: 1996
Condition: MNH

Notes:

Created by Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall for Cosgrove Hall Productions, the show was designed as a affectionate spoof of iconic British spy thrillers like James Bond and Danger Man. Operating out of a secret base inside a red pillar box on Baker Street, the intrepid title character, voiced dynamically by Sir David Jason; battled bizarre international threats alongside his bumbling, timid hamster sidekick, Ernest Penfold. The production combined sharp, dry British wit with minimalist background art style choices to create a masterpiece of children's programming that successfully bridged the gap between kid-friendly slapstick and adult parody.
