Gugh Scilly Isles Coronation Street Commemorative

Under Review

Description: This 25-penny local post carriage label from the island of Gugh in the Isles of Scilly celebrates the 35th anniversary of Britain's legendary, longest-running television soap opera, Coronation Street. Set against a solid rose-pink background, the central cartoon vignette depicts a green cleaning bucket packed with a striped cloth, a window squeegee, and a wooden scrub brush to symbolize the classic working-class back-alley aesthetic of the show. Inset within a circular portrait medallion in the upper left quadrant is a monochrome photograph of the legendary actress Lynne Carol portraying her iconic, gossiping character Martha Longhurst, captured in her signature spectacles and hairnet. The island authority name "GUGH Scilly Isles" is cleanly printed in the upper right, while the lower border features the formal bicentennial text "CORONATION STREET 35th ANNIVERSARY" directly above the actor and character credits.

Circa: 1995

Condition: Mint

Notes:
Part of the 1995 fantasy island commemorative cinderella set celebrating 35 years of Coronation Street, these were produced in limited runs for collectors, not for postal use. Each “island” issued unique designs showcasing beloved characters: Ken Barlow, Bet Gilroy, Stan Ogden, and others. Martha Longhurst, portrayed by Lynne Carol, was a founding character (1960–1964), remembered for her sharp wit and tragic exit, a defining early moment in British television drama.
