Monument to Resilience

Under Review

Description: This artifact is a vertical marginal strip of three pre-decimal 9d (nine pence) postage stamps issued by Great Britain's Royal Mail as part of the celebrated 1969 British Architecture (Cathedrals) series. The issue explicitly highlights Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece, St. Paul's Cathedral, an enduring emblem of British identity that famously stood strong through the catastrophic bombings of the London Blitz. Designed by Peter Gauld, the illustration presents a highly detailed, clean architectural elevation of the cathedral's grand western facade and its legendary dome against a stark, light gray background. Positioned on the right side of each stamp is a classic Corinthian pillar capital supporting the solid violet silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II, gracefully bridging centuries of classical English design with modern mid-century philatelic aesthetics.

Circa: 1969

Condition: Mint strip of 3 with lower selvage.
