Treasure detail

UK Queen Elizabeth II Scotland Regional Definitive Block

Under Review

Description: This philatelic item is a beautifully preserved, unmounted mint block of six Great Britain Regional Definitives (Country Definitives), issued specifically for use within Scotland. Rendered in a deep, dark violet-blue ink, each individual stamp carries a face value of five pence (5d) under the pre-decimal currency system. The design relies on the celebrated Wilding series portrait of a young Queen Elizabeth II taken by photographer Dorothy Wilding. Flanking the royal portrait are bold, vertical framing bands reading "POSTAGE" and "REVENUE". What transforms this into a regional Scottish variant are the distinct national emblems anchored in the lower corners. The left corner displays the Saltire (the Saint Andrew's Cross) beneath a regional crown, while the right corner proudly exhibits a blooming Scottish Thistle, both beautifully framed within elegant, classic scrollwork.

Circa: 1958-1972
