Royal Marines Subdued Metal Shoulder Title

Under Review

Material: Brass (service-blackened finish)
Size: 22mm w × 12mm h
Description: This artifact is an authentic military shoulder title featuring the block letters "RM". The compact insignia is manufactured from a base alloy that has been treated with a darkened, subdued finish to minimize light reflection in combat environments. The characters are rendered in a clean, flat-faced sans-serif typography with thick vertical strokes and pronounced serifs at the corners. On the reverse side, the badge is fitted with integrated dual wire loop lugs that host a long brass cotter pin to anchor it firmly through uniform epaulette fabric. The surfaces exhibit an unevenly aged dark grey and silvery patina, revealing a hint of the underlying metallic base color along the edges from historical handling.
Circa: 1914–1945
Notes:
The Royal Marines utilized these specific compact, un-prefixed "RM" shoulder titles as standard dress identifiers throughout the Second World War and the early post-war era. While high-visibility brass variants were preferred for formal parade dress uniforms, blackened or subdued metal titles were explicitly issued for field service dress to maintain vital tactical camouflage.
