Royal Garrison Artillery Brass Shoulder Title

Under Review

Material: Brass
Size: 43mm w × 17mm h
Description: This artifact is an original British Army gilding metal shoulder title featuring the block letters "RGA". Measuring 43mm wide by 17mm high, the insignia has a slightly curved profile to wrap naturally against the soldier's upper sleeve or epaulette. The letters are cast with a flat-faced font, and the "G" has a distinct horizontal crossbar separating the top arc. The reverse side features two integral wire loop lugs meant to be secured with a split pin or cotter pin through the uniform fabric. Constructed from standard wartime brass, this particular example shows a heavy, authentic dark golden patina from decades of storage and exposure.
Reverse: Flat back with hex style lugs.
Circa: 1899-1924
Notes:
The Royal Garrison Artillery was formally established as a distinct branch of the Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1899 to oversee heavy coastal forts, mountain batteries, and heavy siege howitzers. During the First World War, their responsibilities expanded exponentially as trench warfare demanded ever-larger artillery calibers to smash underground concrete bunkers.
