Material: Cloth
Size: 57mm
Description: This circular insignia is a World War II British Army formation sign worn on the upper sleeves of battle dress blouses. The design features the legendary Liver Bird, the mythical avian symbol closely tied to the city of Liverpool, holding a traditional seaweed sprig in its beak. Rather than being heavily embroidered with thick thread, this specific specimen was manufactured using a specialized war-time screen-printing ink process directly on a durable, coarse woven cotton twill or linen backing substrate.
Circa: 1941-1946
Notes:
The 23rd Armoured Brigade adopted the Liver Bird in reference to its Liverpool origins. The brigade served during the Second World War in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and Greece.
