Obverse: This historic coin is a British 1931 silver three pence featuring the left-facing, uncrowned effigy of King George V. The obverse showcases the iconic regal bust originally sculpted by Sir Edgar Bertram MacKennal, though heavy pocket wear over decades has softened the fine details of the monarch's beard and crown area. Encircling the rim is the traditional abbreviated Latin legend "GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP," which translates to "George V by the Grace of God, King of all the Britain's, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India." A finely beaded border traces the absolute perimeter of the coin's outer face.
Reverse: Three oak sprigs with acorns forming a triangle, the designer’s initials “KG” (Kruger Gray) in the center, THREE PENCE above and 1931 below.
Circa: 1931 (Reign of George V, 1910–1936)
Condition: Very Fine – Attractive toning, slight wear on acorns and legend, clear detail remaining; even patina with warm bronze-gold hue from natural oxidation of silver alloy.
Notes:
This three pence features a beautiful reverse design by the acclaimed artist George Kruger Gray, which completely replaced the older numeric layouts. The central motif showcases three stylized oak sprigs bearing three prominent acorns, intricately intertwined into a triangular configuration to symbolize strength and national endurance.
