Material: 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, 5% Zinc
Diameter: 19 mm
Mint / Mintmark: Royal Mint, London (no mintmark)
Obverse: This vintage British coin represents the sixpence denomination, featuring the classic portrait of King George V modeled by the Australian sculptor Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal. The surrounding legend displays the abbreviated royal titles, reading “GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP:”, which translates to George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India. The outer circumference is lined with sharp, uniform dentiles that serve to frame the image and minimize physical surface scuffing during everyday commercial transactions. This thin silver piece was a foundational component of daily trading across Great Britain and colonial territories during the late 1920s.
Reverse: Four oak sprigs with acorns forming a cross pattern, designer’s initials “KG” (Kruger Gray) in the center. SIXPENCE above, 1928 below.
Circa: 1928
