Material: Bronze (95.5% copper, 3% tin, 1.5% zinc)
Diameter: 30.81 mm

Obverse: This vintage bronze coin represents the definitive obverse design of the British one penny piece struck during the opening year of the First World War. The center features the bare, left-facing portrait of King George V, designed by the acclaimed Australian sculptor Bertram Mackennal, whose initials "B.M." are subtly struck into the truncation of the neck. Encircling the portrait along the rim is the complete Latin inscription "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP:", which translates to "George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India." The coin is finished with a protective beaded border along the rim and displays a warm, circulated brown patina with light handling wear across the higher details of the cheek and mustache.
Reverse: Britannia seated facing right with trident and shield, ONE PENNY above, date 1914 below
