Obverse: This numismatic specimen is an authentic standard circulation silver florin, or two-shilling coin, struck by the Royal Mint at Tower Hill in London. The obverse face features a bold, uncrowned left-facing portrait bust of King George V, finely sculpted with distinctive facial hair and a high-buttoned collar. Encircling the rim is the prominent, raised Latin inscription legend "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX", which translates directly to "George the Fifth, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains". Measuring 28.5mm in diameter and weighing approximately 11.3 grams, the round coin features a crisp, reeded edge and is struck in a 50 percent silver alloy.
Reverse: Four crowned shields representing England, Scotland, and Ireland arranged in cruciform with sceptres between; legend “FID: DEF: IND: IMP: ONE FLORIN 1935.” Design by George Kruger Gray.
Circa: 1935
Condition: Very Fine
Notes:
The year 1935 was immensely momentous for King George V, marking his Silver Jubilee celebration just a few short months before his death in January 1936, which adds a deep bittersweet value to this late-reign issue. The elegant portrait on the face was designed by the celebrated Australian sculptor Sir Edgar Bertram MacKennal, whose subtle "B.M." initials are tucked discreetly into the truncation of the King’s neck on high-grade specimens.
