Obverse: This substantial pre-decimal United Kingdom half crown coin represents a major turning point in British numismatic history. Designed by the prominent Australian-born sculptor Edgar Bertram MacKennal, the obverse design showcases a detailed portrait of King George V, featuring the small initials "B.M." subtly placed near the bottom edge of the neck line. The prominent imperial inscription along the perimeter reads "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX," proclaiming him to be George the Fifth, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains. Struck during a time of global financial reorganization, this specific issue marked the official end of centuries-old sterling purity standards at the Royal Mint.
Reverse: Crowned quartered shield of arms, legend FID: DEF: IND: IMP: HALF CROWN 1920
Circa: 1920
Condition: Fine to Very Fine
Notes:

The year 1920 is legendary among numismatists because it marks the precise moment the British government permanently slashed the silver content of its silver coinage from 92.5% sterling silver down to just 50% silver due to soaring post-WWI bullion costs. Because of this sudden metallurgic transition, the Royal Mint initially struggled with the new alloy mix, making early 1920 varieties prone to localized striking flaws, rapid uncharacteristic green toning, or a dull yellowish appearance as the heavy copper base bled through the thin surface layer over time.
