Air Cadets Glider Pilot Wings

Under Review

Material: Cloth embroidery

Size: 80mm wingspan, 43 mm higher at center

Description: This prestigious insignia is awarded to qualified youth who successfully graduate from the grueling summer Glider Pilot Scholarship program. The striking layout displays dual outspread white-feathered wings extending symmetrically from a stylized central "G" initialized identifier, resting over a curved gold bottom banner stitched with the word "CADET". Crowning the entire design is a multi-colored Queen's (St. Edward's) Crown, intricately rendered with crimson velvet and gold wire accents to represent the reigning Canadian monarch of the era. It is constructed on a midnight blue wool-blend melton backing fabric, designed to match seamlessly with the uniform jackets and worn proudly above the left chest pocket to display specialized aviation skill.

Circa: Mid-20th century

Notes:

Badges of this kind marked specialist training within cadet aviation programs, reflecting the importance placed on flying instruction and air-minded youth training in the mid-20th century. The winged form gave even small cloth insignia a strong sense of achievement and identity.
