Material: White metal
Size: 52 mm W x 50 mm H
Description: This is an original British military cap badge worn by enlisted men and non-commissioned officers of the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment). Crafted from standard die-struck white metal, the badge is centered around a diamond-cut Star of the Order of the Thistle. Superimposed upon the upper arm of the star is an Imperial King's Crown, while the center displays a traditional light infantry French bugle horn wrapped around the interlocking monogram initials "HLI". A small banner reading "ASSAYE" arches over the bottom arm of the star, anchored by a detailed standing elephant. The reverse features a smooth finish equipped with an unmarked pair of original vertical wire lugs meant for securing the emblem onto a traditional woolen Glengarry cap.
Circa: 1902-1952
Notes:
A King’s Crown cap badge for the Highland Light Infantry, combining the regiment’s bugle horn and HLI monogram with the Assaye honor and elephant device. The Assaye element recalls the regiment’s historical connection to the 1803 battle in India, a distinction carried prominently in its badge design.
