Gloucestershire Regiment Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: White metal, likely nickel-silver alloy

Size: 51 mm W x 43 mm H

Description: This die-stamped white-metal insignia centers on a beautifully detailed Egyptian Sphinx crouching firmly atop a textured tablet inscribed "EGYPT" British Military Cap Badges, The Gloucestershire Cross Belt. The central architectural block rests nestled within two elegant, sweeping sprigs of laurel foliage that meet a beautifully folded lower scroll cleanly displaying the title "GLOUCESTERSHIRE". Emerging down from the hollow reverse of the stamping is a solid, completely unmarked vertical brass slider assembly designed to slide smoothly into a standard service cap or tropical sun helmet puggaree band.

Circa: 1881-1958

Notes:

The Gloucestershire Regiment, affectionately nicknamed the "Glorious Glosters," was a line infantry regiment of the British Army with a highly distinguished history stretching across nearly three centuries. Formed in 1881 through the amalgamation of the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot and the 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot, the unit established a legendary reputation for resilience under fire.

their most legendary modern action took place during the Korean War at the Battle of the Imjin River (April 1951). Holding a critical defensive hill against overwhelming waves of Chinese forces, the 1st Battalion fought a desperate, heroic three-day stand that effectively blocked the advance on Seoul. For their extraordinary gallantry, the battalion was awarded the United States Presidential Unit Citation, forever cementing their status in modern military history.
