Description: This military cap badge features the historic coat of arms originally granted to the Board of Ordnance. The primary design displays a central shield containing three antique field cannons arranged vertically (in pale), with each artillery piece facing to the left and adorned with a star-burst symbol over its center wheel. The top portion of the shield (in chief) holds three large, distinct cannonballs arranged horizontally. Enwrapping the base and flanks of the shield, a prominent three-part scroll is crisply embossed with the uppercase text "ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS". The reverse features a solid, unmarked brass slider fastener meant to slide easily into a standard forage cap or field service headdress. Presenting a beautiful warm golden-brass patina with small hints of dark tarnish in the recessed crevices, this die-struck specimen demonstrates high-quality late-19th-century military manufacturing
Circa: 1896-1919
