Middlesex Regiment Uniform Button

Under Review

Material: Gilt brass, convex with fixed shank
Size: 25 mm
Description: This high-relief brass uniform component was worn by officers and other ranks of the Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own). The center features the Prince of Wales's feathers emerging from a coronet, complete with a flowing scroll bearing the traditional motto, "Ich Dien" (I Serve). Directly beneath this main emblem rests a separate scroll explicitly stamped with the title "Albuhera", a proud battle honor commemorating the regiment's legendary stand during the Peninsular War. The entire composition is encircled by a detailed, symmetrical laurel wreath structure.

Reverse: Intact 2 piece construction; marked M.ABRAHAMS 27 HANBURY ST LONDON.E.1
Circa: 1881-1958
Notes:
The battle honor text honoring Albuhera is highly significant because it recalls the 57th Regiment of Foot, a predecessor unit whose legendary commander famously ordered his men to "Die hard" on that specific battlefield, earning the regiment its famous moniker as the "Die Hards". Turning to the physical manufacturer attributes, the distinct backmark stamping for M. Abrahams of London anchors this piece within a tight lineage of independent military tailors operating out of the historic East End garment district. The 25-millimeter measurement is the standard sizing rule designated specifically for tunics and greatcoats.
