Description: The piece displayed is a large, heavily domed 25mm gilt brass uniform button created specifically for officer jackets within the British Merchant Navy. The crisply stamped face features a prominent naval crown, distinguished by its alternating sterns and sails, perched directly above a fouled anchor on a plain, unlined field. Framing this central nautical device is a tightly wound, raised rope twist inner border running along the interior circumference of a smooth outer edge. Strands of original sewing thread are still looped through the reverse attachment shank, indicating it was actively salvaged from a service uniform. Stamped “GAUNT • LONDON”.
