British Rifle Brigade King's Crown Black Horn Tunic Button

Under Review

Material: Animal Horn
Size: 25 mm
Description: This military artifact is a large tunic button carved from genuine black animal horn, specifically structured for the Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own). The face of the button features a deeply engraved, horizontally lined background field that creates a matte texture. Struck in bold central relief is a traditional strung powder bugle horn, complete with its carrying cords tied into an elegant decorative top bow. Positioned directly over the bow is the Tudor Crown, historically designated by collectors as the King's Crown, which was utilized throughout the consecutive reigns of King Edward VII, King George V, and King George VI. The reverse side is equipped with a self-horn shank or a robust metal loop fastener firmly anchored into the dense organic body to secure the button onto thick wool service dress uniforms.

Circa: 1901-1952

Notes:

Unlike standard British line infantry regiments that wore bright, polished brass buttons, rifle units like the KRRC traditionally wore black horn or metal fasteners to prevent sunlight glint against their dark green uniforms.
