Description: A convex button displaying an eight-pointed radiating star beneath a King’s Crown. At its center, the numeral “5” sits above “DG,” enclosed by a circular band carrying the regimental motto, VESTIGIA NULLA RETRORSUM—“No backward steps.” Fine horizontal lines fill the central field, contrasting with the textured rays of the star.
The reverse has a central loop shank and a backmark reading “JAS PLATT & CO” and “77 ST MARTIN’S LANE.”

Notes: The 5th Dragoon Guards served in the Crimean War, the Boer War, and the First World War. In 1922, the regiment merged with the 6th Dragoons to form the 5th/6th Dragoons.
