Material: Gilt brass with red and blue enamel
Size: 25mm w × 25mm h
Description: This original miniature insignia was produced as a sweetheart or lapel pin for the Royal Air Force (RAF). Centered in the design is a finely detailed golden eagle with outspread wings layered over a light blue center disc. This central focal point is encircled by a deep blue enameled garter band housing the crisp, gold-lettered Latin motto "PER ARDUA AD ASTRA". The entire circular assembly is bordered by a golden laurel wreath and surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown, which is highlighted by vibrant red and white enamel detailing within the cushions. The reverse side is completely unmarked and features a modern dual pin clutch fastener mechanism to anchor the piece securely to a lapel or tie.
Circa: Post-1953
Notes:
The famous Latin motto featured on the central garter translates directly to "Through Adversity to the Stars," a phrase adopted at the founding of the air arm.
