Under Review

Material: Embroidered cloth badge.

Size: 85 mm × 115 mm.

Description: Representing aviation training excellence, this beautifully detailed uniform patch showcases a stylized silver glider soaring through a sky-blue background. Overlaid across the central aircraft fuselage is a striking, bright red heraldic eagle or falcon with outstretched wings, symbolizing flight agility and bird-of-prey precision. The central emblem is framed within a sky-blue circle bearing the initials VGS at the top, flanked by the unit number 635 on both sides. Arching along the bottom of the circle is the bold inscription ROYAL AIR FORCE, anchored securely within a golden laurel leaf wreath. Crowning the entire circular framework is a highly detailed Queen's Crown (St. Edward's Crown) backed by a vibrant scarlet fabric insert. A prominent black scroll arches across the base of the insignia, exhibiting the embroidered unit motto Nos Ducimus Ceteri Sequuntur, which translates directly from Latin as "We Lead, Others Follow".

Circa: Mid to Late 20th Century

Notes:

The squadron traces its roots back to 1944 when it was formed as No. 635 Gliding School at RAF Burtonwood, eventually converting into a Volunteer Gliding Squadron in 1968 to train air cadets using specialized gliders.
