Material: Brass
Size: 47mm w × 43mm h
Description: This die-stamped brass military artifact represents the standard headdress insignia worn by the other ranks of the Northamptonshire Regiment. The central feature highlights the Castle of Gibraltar, displaying brickwork textures across three towers, complete with a suspended key beneath the central gateway. A top scroll prominently balances the designation "GIBRALTAR", while a central nested banner reads "TALAVERA" to honor a famous Peninsular War battle. The entire lower half is bound by a wide, sweeping tri-part scroll boldly embossed with the regional name "NORTHAMPTONSHIRE". The structure relies on an unbranded vertical brass slider attached to the reverse side to clip securely into service caps.
Circa: 1898-1958
Notes:
This design uniquely commemorates two separate ancestral units that merged during the Childers Reforms of 1881, combining the 48th Regiment of Foot who won fame at Talavera and the 58th Regiment of Foot who defended Gibraltar.
