National Hospital Service Reserve Badge

Under Review

Material: Gilt metal with red and green enamel
Size: 20 mm × 30 mm
Description: This authentic civil defense lapel pin is die-struck from a brass alloy base and finished with high-gloss vitreous enamel detailing. The core layout features a dark green enameled shield bearing the raised gilt block lettering text "NATIONAL HOSPITAL SERVICE RESERVE" stacked neatly across four horizontal lines. A subtle, inverted triangular chevron accent is placed in the lowermost point of the shield frame. The entire upper boundary of the shield is proudly surmounted by a beautifully detailed, red-enameled Tudor-style King's Crown.
Reverse: Plain gilt finish with horizontal safety pin clasp.
Circa: 1949–1952
Notes:

The National Hospital Service Reserve (NHSR) was formed in 1949 to support Britain’s new National Health Service, recruiting volunteers for civil emergencies and hospital assistance. Members received this badge as proof of affiliation between 1949 - 52.  It was part of the wider Civil Defence network until its disbandment in 1968.
