Issued to Honorary Members of the British Legion, formed in 1921 (renamed the Royal British Legion in 1971). Each badge carried a unique membership or honorary roll number.

An honorary or life membership in the Royal British Legion (or the Royal Canadian Legion) is a prestigious designation awarded to individuals who have provided extraordinary service to veterans, the Legion itself, or the wider community. Earlier interwar pieces such as this are prized for their craftsmanship and lower production numbers.
