Devonshire Regiment Home Service Helmet Plate Centre

Under Review

Material: Gilding metal (brass), with original dark blue/black wool backing
Size: 48 mm
Description: The design serves as the central element for the traditional Victorian and Edwardian era Home Service helmet plate worn by line infantry soldiers. It showcases the title "Devonshire" boldly struck into the upper half of the ring, balanced by a twin laurel spray gracing the bottom curve. Nestled just below the castle ramparts is a tiny scroll bearing the proud Latin motto "Semper Fidelis", translating to "Always Faithful". On the reverse, the piece features an authentic dual lug attachment mechanism meant to secure the circular medallion firmly to the larger star plate background.
Reverse: Two original copper lugs for split-pin fixing; retains its original wool backing.
Circa: 1881-1914
Notes:

The castle depicted on this badge represents Exeter Castle, which was officially adopted by the regiment in 1883 from the original Devon Militia traditions.
