Somerset Light Infantry Collar Badge

Under Review

Material: Brass
Size: 30 mm W × 30 mm H
Description: The historical artifact is an authentic Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert's) other ranks' uniform collar badge, precision die-struck in solid gilding brass metal. The iconic graphic composition centers upon a highly detailed, open-work stringed bugle horn embellished with a central, multi-tiered knotted ribbon tassel. Surmounting the cords is a masterfully rendered mural crown showing deeply incised stone brick masonry lines and four distinct battlements along its upper rim. Capping the crown structure is a prominent, upwardly curved ribbon scroll crisply superscribed with the legendary battle honor "JELLALABAD" in bold capital letters. The clean reverse side is entirely unmarked and comes built with its native north-south oriented wire loops meant for split-pin attachment directly through the lapel of a heavy wool service dress tunic.
Circa: 1881-1959
Notes:

With a long lifespan and many makers, confirming authenticity can be challenging.
