Royal Fusiliers Brass Collar Badge

Under Review

Material: Brass, die-stamped with twin lug fittings
Size: 20 mm w × 30 mm h
Description: This belonged to a Fusilier or Grenadier regiment, such as the Royal Grenadiers or Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, the die-struck piece is sculpted in the iconic shape of a classic flaming grenade. The lower half features a completely smooth, spherical bomb body, which transitions elegantly into a narrow neck. Erupting from the top is a beautifully detailed flameburst comprising numerous distinct, stylized flickering waves of fire that curl upward and outward. The piece shows a lovely, untouched golden-brass patina with subtle dark tarnishing in the crevices of the flames. The reverse side is completely unmarked and features two sturdy, integrated dual attachment lugs fitted with a simple split pin to anchor the emblem securely to a uniform collar.
Circa: 1881-1968
Notes:
The flaming grenade motif is one of the oldest symbols in military history, traditionally awarded to elite assault troops who specialized in breaching fortifications with early black-powder explosives. Because this emblem lacks a specific regimental scroll or nested device on the bomb body, this universal pattern was widely utilized as a collar badge across multiple Commonwealth Fusilier regiments and artillery units during both World Wars.
