Material: Brass
Size: 32 mm w × 25 mm h
Description: This original Other Ranks' military collar insignia measures exactly 32 millimeters wide by 25 millimeters high and is struck from a single piece of brass base alloy. The primary layout features a majestic, horizontally aligned Chinese Dragon standing facing right, highlighted by intricate body scaling, a coiled tufted tail, and sharp claws grasping a small horizontal rod. The mythical beast stands securely atop a sweeping, curved ribbon banner scroll that frames the raised capital lettering designation "PRINCESS CHARLOTTE OF WALES'S". The piece features a bright golden finish with subtle tarnish collecting within the low-lying relief lines, while the unmarked reverse is fitted with an dual-lug alignment system holding a removable brass retaining split pin to secure the device to a uniform collar neck tab.
Circa: 1896-1958
Notes:
The distinctive use of the Chinese Dragon by the Royal Berkshire Regiment traces its origin back to the heroic actions of the 49th Regiment of Foot during the First Opium War in 1840, an emblem officially granted to the unit to commemorate their campaign service in China.
