Material: Brass (gilding metal)
Size: 45 mm w × 40 mm h
Description: This original, striking headdress insignia belongs to the Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), famously designated as the 3rd Regiment of Foot. Centered prominently on the design is a majestic heraldic dragon with outspread wings, a raised forward claw, and a textured, scaled body standing upon a detailed patch of ground. Sweeping cleanly beneath the creature is an integrated ribbon scroll that boldly frames the regiment's legendary title, "THE BUFFS". On the reverse side, the piece features an unmarked, solid brass attachment slider used to firmly secure the metal insignia to a standard service dress or field cap.
Circa: 20th Century
Notes:
The distinctive dragon motif was originally granted to the unit by King George I to officially honor the regiment's deep historical origin, which stretches all the way back to 16th-century Tudor defense forces.
