British Army Green Howards Staybrite Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: Staybrite
Diameter: 31 mm × 37 mm
Description: This official regimental cap badge is struck from lightweight, non-tarnishing gold and silver anodized aluminum, universally referred to by collectors under the trade name "Staybrite". The multi-piece visual composition features the silver-toned Dannebrog Cross inscribed with the year "1875", beautifully interlaced with the elegant golden cypher monogram of Princess Alexandra. This central crest rests directly upon a silver Roman numeral "XIX" denoting the historic 19th Regiment of Foot, all surmounted by a crisp St. Edward's Crown (Queen's Crown) at the apex. The base is anchored by a sweeping, polished golden banner scroll carrying the sharply embossed unit title "THE GREEN HOWARDS". The reverse retains its pristine, unbent vertical slider bar that was manufactured by J.R. Gaunt of Birmingham to secure the piece into a woolen beret or formal peaked service cap.
Circa: 1973-1993
Notes:

This specific badge captures a distinct timeline in modern British militaria, directly tracking to J.R. Gaunt’s 1973 factory relocation to Birmingham where the punctuated "J.R. GAUNT BHAM" slider mark was introduced. The Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment) maintained an incredibly rich heritage, and their unique insignia honors Princess Alexandra of Denmark, who became the unit's colonel-in-chief in 1875.
