Material: Staybrite (Anodized Aluminum)
Size: 40 mm × 43 mm
Description: This bi-metal cap badge belonged to the 15th/19th The King's Royal Hussars, a celebrated armored cavalry regiment of the British Army. The central architecture showcases the Royal Crest—a crowned lion statant guardant—rendered in crisp white metal. This central figure rests directly inside a gilded circular garter ribbon inscribed with the Order of the Garter motto: "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense" (Shame on him who thinks evil of it). Below the circlet, the ancestral Roman numerals "XV XIX" bridge the gap down to a downward-curved golden scroll, which boldly frames the regiment's Latin motto: "MEREBIMUR" (We Shall Be Worthy).
Circa: 1973-1992
Notes:
The crown supporting the silver lion features the distinct lobed profile of the post-1953 St. Edward's Crown, confirming its modern Elizabethan era manufacturing. The reverse side is equipped with a vertical slider stamped with the maker's hallmark "J.R. GAUNT BHAM", a specific branding shift that occurred after the Birmingham Mint acquired J.R. Gaunt & Son in 1973. This "BHAM" designation provides excellent chronological value for militaria specialists, mapping the badge's production directly to the mid-1970s or 1980s rather than the earlier "London" marked eras.
