Royal Engineers King George V Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: Gilding metal (brass)
Size: 40 mm w × 50 mm h
Description: This crisp brass cap badge was issued to personnel serving in the Corps of Royal Engineers, a highly specialized technical branch of the British Army. The central architecture showcases the interlaced royal cypher "GvR" of King George V, beautifully framed by a circular garter band inscribed with the historic Anglo-Norman motto of the Order of the Garter: "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense" (Shame on him who thinks evil of it). This entire central medallion is nested inside a dense, sweeping laurel wreath, topped by a rounded Tudor Crown—commonly referred to as the King's Crown—signifying allegiance to the monarch. A flowing scroll along the bottom base cleanly anchors the unit title, anchoring the grand aesthetic of this combat-engineered corps insignia. ROYAL ENGINEERS; surrounded by laurel wreath.
Reverse: Plain brass with original slider fitting; unmarked.
Circa: 1910 – 1936
Notes:

Chemical Bronzing or Economy paint? the badge appears to have a coating of some sort...
