Material: Brass (gilding metal)
Size: 45 mm w × 40 mm h
Description: This piece is an original British Army cap badge issued to the historic Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment). Expertly struck in bright gilding metal, the emblem depicts a highly detailed dragon passant with its wings elevated and its tail curled elegantly backward. The creature stands firmly upon a textured grassy ground line, positioned directly above an ornamental banner scroll embossed with the title "THE BUFFS." The dragon's scales, spiked spine, and snarling facial features are deeply stamped, exhibiting the high-quality craftsmanship of early to mid-twentieth-century military suppliers. The reverse side features an unmarked, solid vertical brass slider attachment intended to slide smoothly into the front band of a soldier's service dress cap or beret.
Circa: 1898-1958
Notes:
The dragon emblem dates back to Queen Elizabeth I, who authorized the regiment's ancestors to use the symbol as a reward for their service in the Low Countries.
