Material: Gilt brass (yellow-bronze tone)
Size: 40 mm height × 35 mm width
Description: Bold raised fleur-de-lis with central ribbing and tied midsection, with crisp relief and symmetrical flare at the petal bases.
Reverse: Flat with central vertical slider attachment; intact on this example.
Circa: Early to Mid 20th Century
Notes:
While the Manchester Regiment historically wore a highly complex white metal and brass headdress insignia depicting the Manchester Civic Arms, that design was deeply disliked by frontline soldiers who mockingly dubbed it the "tram conductor's badge" due to its large, bulky shape; it was relaced with the Fleur-de-lis.
