Material: Bronze
Size: 40 mm W × 37 mm H
Description: This is an authentic British army cap badge featuring a detailed central heraldic "garb" or wheat sheaf tied securely around its middle section. A wide, stylized banner scroll frames the base of the wheat stalk, split into distinct text sections that read "LOTHIANS &" on the left, "BORDER HORSE" along the bottom, and "YEOMANRY" wrapping upward on the right side. The entire piece is die-stamped out of golden-toned brass or gilding metal, displaying a beautifully balanced aged patina with subtle coppery oxidation pooling inside the vertical texturing of the wheat ears.
Reverse: Two copper lugs for attachment
Circa: 1908-1920
Notes: As per W.H. & K.D. Bloomer, Scottish Regimental Badges (pg. 42). Worn by Other Ranks following the regiment’s formation under the Territorial reorganisation of 1908.
This specific configuration with the text "LOTHIANS & BORDER HORSE YEOMANRY" represents the historic Scottish yeomanry cavalry regiment before its 1956 amalgamation into the Queen's Own Lowland Yeomanry. While later World War II iterations were widely produced with standard straight vertical sliders to fit the band of a beret or forage cap, early World War I-era strikes like this version utilized two copper loop lugs placed high on the outer edges of the scroll to be stitched directly into soft wool headwear like a Tam o' Shanter or Glengarry bonnet.
